Craps

Two dice, a come-out roll, and a point to make before a seven shows up. The pass line is the simple bet almost everyone starts with — but the table around it is covered in a dozen other bets, from true-odds wagers with zero house edge to one-roll proposition bets that are some of the worst odds in the casino. This guide covers the whole layout, not just the pass line.

How a round plays out

Every round opens with a come-out roll. Roll a 7 or 11 and the pass line wins outright; roll a 2, 3, or 12 ("craps") and it loses outright. Any other number — 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 — becomes the point, and the shooter keeps rolling until either that exact number comes up again (pass line wins) or a 7 shows first (a "seven-out," and the pass line loses). That's the whole game underneath all the bets stacked on top of it: odds bets riding on the point, bets on individual numbers, and one-roll proposition bets in the middle of the table.
